Cabinet hinges are the little ones that may cause a lot of troubles. Everyone uses them, but actually, not everyone knows how to use them properly. So, what is the key to success? Check out below, how to install cabinet hinges right!
Choose the right cabinet hinges
The entire kitchen cabinetry would not work at all with no suitable hinges. There are many kinds of cabinet hinges, but the most popular ones are just simple metal hinges (made of aluminum or zinc alloy) with an appropriate opening angle. For corner cabinets you should choose hinges with a wider opening angle, for furniture built in parallel, you can choose smaller hinges.
When choosing hinges, you should also pay attention to their maximum load capacity and the parameters of the furniture fronts. The vast majority of furniture is made of chipboard and MDF, which can be fitted with virtually all assembly accessories. However, if we have better furniture, e.g. made of solid wood, it will be necessary to install specialized kitchen cabinets hinges.

To install the furniture hinges, you will need a screwdriver and a drill. Additional accessories are wood cleaning agents (to remove all possible dirt), a ruler, a pencil, or a spirit level. It is also worth equipping yourself with a good adhesive tape, which can help during installation, especially when you do all the work alone (when drilling, it is worth attaching one part of the hinge to make everything even).
It is also worth distinguishing between the two main 'species' of hinges. The first are American hinges - butt hinges. They are compact and take up very little space. The fronts open thanks to the sliding mechanism. The second type is cabinet hinges (also known as european hinges or install hiddens). Here we will focus on showing how to install these second hinges.
Installing cabinet hinges - step by step
After selecting the hinges and preparing the mounting accessories, start with the appropriate marking of the mounting location. You need to mark with a pencil the places for the hinge installation. The openings must be at a distance of approx. 10 - 15 cm from the upper and lower edges (in the case of installation of 2 hinges / 1 furniture front).
The wider and higher the front, the greater the distance from the edge. For drilling, use a wood drill bit with a thickness that matches the hinge mounting bolts.
The next step is to fix the element with screws or mounting screws. They are usually included in the kit. Remember that European type hinges are adjusted with screws, so do not screw everything to the maximum! The last element is to clean everything up and adjust it, which should be done slowly and carefully. And that's it - you got a fully functional kitchen furniture with cabinet hinges!
