STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Sonos has announced a new collaboration with Ikea, on “creating future home sound experiences.”

The companies have said that they want to make it easier to play music anywhere in the home.

The collaboration comes as Sonos’ main benefit is how easy their software makes it to set up and manage a system of speakers throughout a user’s home.

Björn Block, Business Leader, IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden explained, “Together with Sonos we want to democratize music and sound in the home, and we want to create products designed for how people listen together at home. By teaming up with Sonos we want to combine IKEA home furnishing knowledge with Sonos’ expertise within great home sound.”

While the companies have not revealed any concrete details about the specific types of products, both the firms have said that collaborate further.

The products are only due to launch in 2019 and it will also be a while before exact details of the collaboration are revealed.

Ikea reportedly believes that this endeavor is the third step for their Home Smart division.

In 2015, the company launched wireless charging in some of their furniture, and smart lighting products in the subsequent year.

It has now shifted its focus to music.

Ikea and Sonos has described the move as their attempt to “democratize music” in one’s home.

The companies have added that their products will be specifically designed to allow people to continue enjoying audio experiences together.
